Meditate on Death
Posted by Jackson Lim in Emotional Inteligence on May 26, 2009
Once you truly, wholeheartedly know the true meaning of death and impermanence, the conventional yada-yada motivational talk simply doesn’t resonance with my brain wave any longer. Blog’s that I used to enjoy reading every morning to pump me up just simply doesn’t cut it, nowadays I simply contemplate and meditate one the fact that one day, me in this present moment will not step foot on the face of this earth again once I draw my last breath. This exercise help me realize 3 things:
1. Problems in life isn’t that big of a deal
Problems, or rather inconveniences is simply spices to make life interesting and stimulating. I admit that dealing with demanding bosses, uptight customers and crazy life partner isn’t particularly stimulating, but they are there to help you grow, they are there to help you realize just how important your are to them, if you are a pile of scum just like the rest of them, why they waste so much energy to deal with you?
2. Now is all I have
I stop dwelling about the past, and look forward to what’s coming up next. Think about it, when the past happens , doesn’t it happen at that present moment? It is hard to put in words, but try to wrap your head around it, once you understand and realize the power of now, you’ll understand that worry and regrets are simply tricks from the mind. Worrying about the future that might never happens, and regretting about the past that you can’t do anything about simply draws you away from the present moment, the now.
3. Cherish Life and Relationships
If you truly know death, you will know how important life is, and how precious each conscious moment. It is not easy to reach our present state of mind, our mothers risk their life given birth to us, it took us years to develop this mind and we have years ahead to perfect it. During the exercise we encounter people whom will point us to the right direction, or change our present point of view that might assist us to elevate the present state of mind.
You don’t need to listen to My Chemical Romance to contemplate on death, you don’t need to wait till the last minute to know death, know it now, fear it now and learn to deal with it along the way. Then you will see bliss, then you will cherish life and have beautiful death.

I was out with my family for a seafood dinner, it is a nice place really, a running river on our left and deep jungle on our right, nothing beats eating crab in the middle of no where, feels like I am lost with Bear Grills. While we settled on our table, a couple walk pass my shoulder and sat right in front of our table, one of the girls are particularly attractive, and the other more like a tomboy. You know the type of girl who act and dress more like a dude then a chick, just to set things straight, I have no issues with tomboy, I have 1 or 2 friends whom can be classified as tomboy, but you can’t find one of those around anymore.
On the first sight it is obvious that both of them are couples, holding hands and kissing each other’s cheek, feeding each other food and take numorious scenic pictures together. My dad find them particularly interesting, starring at them while pouring black Guiness in my cup. Can’t blame him really, because I am starring at them as well. I’ve never seen a gay couple acting that way in public before, it is fine if they were hugging and kissing in a club, but not at a family seafood place. I wonder whether they are tying to seek public attention, because if I were them, I’ll rather jump to the river then being starred at like that.
Then as usual my mind start wondering off, what if everyone are gay out of a sudden, then the earth population will be greatly reduced. Instead of baby boom, it became baby deficient. What will happen to the world economy? Since there is no next generation the economy will slowly decline, school and colleges will be forced to shut down. In 100 years there won’t be any living human beings left standing on the face of the earth. Holy macaroni, I must find a way to tackle the hot girl off, for the sake of human race! I’m sure my girlfriend would understand.
Describing the Purpose of Life
Posted by Jackson Lim in Emotional Inteligence on May 19, 2009
Right after lunch, we started to talk about galaxy’s, origin of life and whatnot. But when we move on with the topic of purpose of life, my friend describe the reason of our existence beautifully:
“Our life experience are like a card, and sum of our experiences are like a deck of cards. Each time we deal with God, we produce a different set of combination. The point isn’t to win God in a poker game, the point is to try and experience the best combination we can ever have and enjoy it! Then we move on. If the card are open all the time, we tend to produce the same pattern of cards all the time, while being totally ignorant about other possible combination.”
Summing up our life with a deck of card is definately over simplifying our experience, but to me the anology does make perfect sense. We are not told why we are here in the first place, but if we are told, it will defeat the purpose of our own existance.
